The event was aimed at analyzing and studying implementation of National programme on raising legal culture in society, approved by the resolution of the Legislative Chamber on 29 August 1997 and developing mechanisms for further work with population and youth, as well as determining main criteria of raising legal culture in the society.
Opening the hearing, chairperson of the committee Akmal Saidov said that raising legal culture in the society has been set as one of priority tasks in Uzbekistan.
Uzbek President Islam Karimov said at the joint session of the chambers of Oliy Majis of Uzbekistan that it is important to improve legal education in the country and promote legal knowledge in the society.
Based on this, parliament should deeply study current state and perspectives of democratic reforms on further raising legal culture in the society, develop necessary legal measures on their implementation, which was one of tasks of the public hearing.
During independence years, Uzbekistan carried out wide-scale and systematic measures, directed at raising legal culture in the society, interaction between people, society and government, as well as improving legal education system.
During the public hearing, representatives of Kamolot, Women’s Committee, Mahalla Fund, Prosecutor Office, Ministry of Interior Affairs, Ministry of Public Education, and others provided reports on the work carried out in this direction.
At the end of the hearing, participants developed recommendations and proposals on eliminating existing problems in the sphere. The Committee adopted the decision.
