Representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers, ministries and departments, governors of some Uzbek cities, transport organizations participated at the meeting.
Participants noted that Uzbekistan pays special attention to development market relations and competitive environment in city passenger transport. The law “On city passenger transport” was adopted on 25 April 2007 and some other documents were adopted to develop the sector.
Currently, there are some 7,000 passenger routes in Uzbekistan, of which 969 are routes within city, 336 are bus and 633 taxi-buses. Over 99% of 969 routes within city were placed on open tenders.
Participants noted that shortages in passenger transportation. In particular, taxies should be equipped with taximeter, but the sides are agreeing trip fee. City budgets did not allocate resources for covering expenses of transporters, related to transportation of citizens, who have preferences.
Participants noted that state bodies in places should pay special attention to ensure rule of law in transport sector.
The session adopted recommendations on abolishment of shortages.
