MPs adopt law on ratification of agreement on general directions of youth policy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, deputies approved the law "On the Ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan on General Directions of Youth Policy (Dushanbe, on 14 September 2023).

The initiative for this agreement was proposed by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 21 July 2022, at the IV Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States in Cholpon-Ata.

The document aims to unite the youth of the region and strengthen cooperation by facilitating interaction between government bodies, NGOs, and other civil society institutions of the participating countries in implementing youth policy and supporting youth initiatives.

The main directions of the agreement include:

  • Involving youth in the social, cultural, political, and economic life of Central Asian countries;
  • Enhancing the role of youth in society;
  • Developing programs to nurture a healthy and developed young generation;
  • Ensuring quality education;
  • Exchanging experiences and developing scientific and innovative cooperation;
  • Promoting a healthy lifestyle;
  • Creating conditions for the popularization of various sports;
  • Supporting the creative activities of talented youth;
  • Encouraging volunteer activities;
  • Developing international youth tourism and tourism infrastructure;
  • Supporting socially vulnerable youth, including young people with disabilities;
  • Cooperating with international organizations in the field of youth rights and freedoms.

The agreement also envisages the organization of public events, youth camps, interstate actions, seminars, forums, and conferences on youth policy issues.

Deputies believe that the ratification of this agreement will contribute to the development of partnership relations and the strengthening of youth cooperation in Central Asia.
