MP Zukhra Mirgaziyeva Calls for Stronger Protection of Electronic Signatures in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 30 July, Zukhra Mirgaziyeva, a member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, submitted an official inquiry to Sherzod Kudbiyev, Chairman of the State Tax Committee, raising concerns over the security of electronic digital signatures (EDS). The news was announced by Gulyam Samadov, the press secretary of the lower house of parliament.
The representative of the “Milliy Tiklanish” faction pointed to cases of fraud involving EDS that Uzbek citizens have faced. According to her, the main reason behind such incidents is insufficient knowledge of financial and information technologies.
She highlighted that some users hand over their EDS keys to third parties, enabling them to legally perform any actions with documents on behalf of the actual owner.
To enhance security in the use of electronic signatures, Mirgaziyeva proposed two measures. The first involves linking the EDS key to the device used for registration, with mandatory FaceID verification when changing devices. The second suggests requiring FaceID authentication for each EDS login, similar to the biometric system used for bank cards.
The MP requested a detailed response on the potential implications of these proposals within the 10-day period prescribed for replies to parliamentary inquiries.
