Chairperson of the commission Igor Voznesenkiy said: “We unanimously adopted decision on supporting erection of the monument.”
The monument to the First President of Uzbekistan will be installed at Islam Karimov square in Yakimanka district in the Russian capital.
In October 2016, the square in Yakimanka district was named after Islam Karimov. The square is located near Consulate department and guest house of Uzbekistan.
He said that the members of the commission have no doubt that the monument of Islam Karimov should be erected here.
Igor Voznesenkiy stated that proposal on erection of the monument to Islam Karimov was submitted by the Embassy of Uzbekistan to the Russian Government.
It is expected that the Uzbek side will finance creation of the sculptor, while construction works will be financed due to budget resources of Moscow.
MP of Moscow State Duma Evgeniy Gerasimov said that Islam Karimov deserves monument in Moscow. He said that Mr. Karimov made a lot for whole world and his people.
