Modern tourist complex "Arda Khiva" opens in Khiva
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Significant strides have been made in unlocking the tourism potential of Khorezm region. Over the past seven to eight years, the number of international visitors has increased thirtyfold, and the region’s export of tourism services has grown from US$7 million in 2017 to US$380 million last year.
While tourists once associated Khorezm primarily with Ichan-Kala, the situation has changed dramatically. More than 40 new tourist routes have been developed, bringing the total to 100.
A key addition to the region’s tourism landscape is the Arda Khiva tourist complex, a landmark project inaugurated during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Khorezm.
The complex is designed as a city within an ancient city—an architectural blend of historical motifs and modern elements. It is built on 25 hectares of previously saline, unproductive land, with one side bordering the 150-hectare Govuk Lake. Green zones are being developed around the lake, enhancing the site’s appeal for visitors.
President Mirziyoyev toured the complex, viewing construction sites, exhibitions of traditional crafts and applied arts, and a bustling oriental bazaar.
Tourist amenities include 20 hotels designed in an ancient city style with a total capacity of 1,000 guests, a water park, amusement attractions, a 3,000-seat amphitheater, and a musical fountain. The complex also features 11 craft houses in historical style, an oriental market, and the "Ancient Urgench" museum. A unique feature is a two-kilometer canal for gondola rides.
Additional facilities include five cinemas, concert halls, restaurants, a jewelry center, retail spaces, a jet ski zone, and ample parking. All structures are equipped with a centralized heating and cooling system, and power is supplied by solar panels.
Arda Khiva is designed to accommodate up to 3 million visitors annually and will create over 2,000 jobs.
If Ichan-Kala is Khiva’s historical identity, then Arda Khiva is set to become its modern signature.
During his visit, President Mirziyoyev also met with Khorezm’s youth, emphasizing the importance of using the country’s spiritual heritage and historical monuments for national benefit, and encouraging young people to pursue knowledge and modern professions.
