Ministry of Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan said that the decision was adopted to improve efficiency of use of radio frequency resources in the country.
The decision of the Council provides equal competitive conditions for access to the radio frequency spectrum and creates conditions for efficient use of radio frequencies to accelerate the introduction of LTE technology, improve the quality of cellular communication services in Uzbekistan.
Currently, radio frequencies in the 900/1800 MHz bands are fully distributed between the operators Unitel (Beeline), Coscom (Ucell), national operator Uzmobile and Universal Mobile Systems (UMS).
The frequencies in the 900/1800 MHz bands are completely distributed between these operators and there are no free frequency bands.
At the same time, mobile operators had uneven volumes of radio frequencies, and the distribution of radio frequencies between operators was of a fragmented nature, which means that radio frequency bands were allocated in different sizes and in different parts of the range.
Such distribution hinders to introduction of 4G/LTE technology, which is currently introduced worldwide. In order to introduce LTE, the operator need solid bands, preferably with a width of 10 to 20 MHz, to achieve a high data rate.
In order to prevent technical problems for mobile communication users during implementation of the decision, the operators will receive six months to re-equipment of their networks.
