Ministry of Health: Multiprofile medical center to be built in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – A multiprofile medical center costing US$300 million will be built in Samarkand with the participation of investors from Turkey and Japan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.

The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan held a meeting with delegations from Japan and Turkey.

The meeting was attended by Acting Minister of Health of Uzbekistan, Asilbek Khudayarov, Chief Executive Officer of the Japanese corporation Sojitz, Masayoshi Fujimoto, President of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Tadashi Maeda, and General Director of the Turkish company Rönesans International, Kaan Kemal Ekermen.

This meeting was a logical continuation of previously reached agreements during the visit of a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Health F. Tashpulatov to Japan from 17 to 21 June.

During the discussion, it was noted that projects in Uzbekistan in cooperation with Japan and Turkey are being implemented to equip medical institutions with modern equipment, implement digital technologies, and train personnel.

Partnerships have also been established with several medical universities in these countries, where future medical specialists are trained through joint educational programs.

Furthermore, work is underway on investment, public-private partnership, and grant projects with prestigious companies from Japan and Turkey.

The guests expressed satisfaction with the conditions created in Uzbekistan for foreign investors and representatives of the private sector in the healthcare industry.

Thanks to the competitive environment formed in the medical field, the quality and volume of medical services provided to the population are increasing. Over the past 8 years, the number of private hospitals in the country has increased by 2.7 times, reaching 8,800, with this number increasing by 500-600 each year.

During the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Health, the Japanese corporation Sojitz, and the Turkish company Rönesans International.

As part of improving medical services for residents of the Samarkand region, a project is planned to build a multiprofile medical center with 800 beds in the city of Samarkand under a public-private partnership, with a total cost of US$300 million. Construction of the clinic is scheduled to begin in 2025.

The parties also agreed on joint training of medical personnel based at this clinic.
