Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan and the World Bank discuss development of private sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A mission of the World Bank Group (WB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC ) held a meeting at the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan.

Experts of the International Finance Corporation made a presentation on the diagnostics of the private sector, entitled "Creating markets in Uzbekistan".

During the discussion, an analysis was also provided of priority sectors requiring increased attention and having a significant impact on economic development.

The four sectors of the country were identified for consideration: employment, enterprises, exports and energy and resource efficiency. Also, with the IFC’s capabilities and the World Bank’s support, changes are expected in the sphere of air communications, information and communication technologies, the chemical industry and agriculture.

It is noted that the diagnostics of the private sector in the country makes it possible to identify opportunities to increase the contribution of the private sector to the country’s sustainable economic growth, as well as to highlight some of the barriers that hinder the development of the private sector.

At the end of the meeting, the Ministry of Finance expressed its desire to continue to cooperate with the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation in studying the creation of markets in Uzbekistan with a view to strengthening and developing the private sector.
