Ministry of Ecology investigates incident involving boxer Shahram Giyasov and a bear

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A video featuring boxer Shahram Giyasov training with a bear has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among users.

The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan has launched an investigation into the incident.

Following the investigation, detailed information will be provided, and all individuals involved will face measures in accordance with the law.

Effective from 1 January 2025, a Cabinet of Ministers resolution will enforce a list of wild animals prohibited from being kept in semi-free or captive conditions in Uzbekistan.

The list includes all species of bears, making their use in state circuses or for circus performances illegal.

The Ministry of Ecology condemned the mistreatment of animals, emphasizing that such actions carry legal consequences.

Buka Gym, the fitness center where the video featuring Giyasov and the bear was filmed, has officially commented on the incident.

The company stated that it does not support such activities involving animals and considers them a violation of club rules. While Giyasov serves as a brand ambassador for Buka Gym, the company clarified that this project was not initiated by them.

Buka Gym also issued an apology to social media users for the distress caused, reaffirming its commitment to animal rights and pledging to prevent similar incidents in the future.
