Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan proposes creating alternative transport lines within the SCO

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 November 2023, the First Transport Forum of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) started in Tashkent.

It will include the Aviation & Logistics Forum 2023 and the TransLogistica Uzbekistan 2023 exhibition.

The holding of the First SCO International Transport Forum in Tashkent on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, announced at the Samarkand SCO Summit in September 2022, is an important event for representatives of the transport sector.

At the forum, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Mahkamov made a welcoming speech. The Minister briefly touched upon the reforms and projects implemented in the field of transport in the Republic of Uzbekistan in recent years and currently being developed.

Ilkhom Makhkamov voiced specific proposals for the further development of the transport and logistics potential of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

In particular, he proposed organizing alternative transport lines, as well as harmonizing standards in the field of transport, and adopting a flexible tariff policy.

The Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan proposed building large multimodal logistics centers along transport arteries and border areas.

Makhkamov called on the SCO countries to organize work at border control points in a 24/7 format and simplify the process of issuing visas.

According to the minister, the SCO countries should widely introduce digital technologies and intelligent systems, as well as exchange best practices in the field of logistics.

The forum also included a ceremony of signing and exchanging documents.

The Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov, the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Dmitry Zverev and the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Talgat Lastaev signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the creation and development of the international transport corridor “Belarus - Russia - Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan”.

The Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ikhlom Makhkamov, the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Dmitry Zverev and the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic Tilek Tekebaev signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the formation and development of the international multimodal transport corridor “Russia - Caspian Sea - Turkmenistan - Uzbekistan - Kyrgyzstan”.

The Memorandum of Understanding between Centrum Solutions LLC and Global Ports Services was signed by Centrum Holding founder and CEO Abdulaziz Abdurakhmanov and PSA International Regional Head for the Middle East and South Asia Mike Farmoso.
