In this regard, at a briefing held on 3 September at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications, the press secretary of the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications Sherzod Akhmatov answered their most interesting questions.

“I learned from social networks that, starting from 1 October, it will be possible to save a mobile phone number when switching to another mobile company! For example, if I am an UzMobile subscriber, can I become a subscriber of another mobile operator without changing the number along with the code?

From 1 October 2020, it is not possible to switch to the services of another communication company while maintaining your mobile phone number. But in the near future such an opportunity may appear.

The reason for this was the registration by the Ministry of Justice of the normative legal document "On the approval of the rules for the provision of telecommunication services." This regulatory document, registered on 30 June 2020, will enter into force on 1 October. This does not mean that the services specified in it will take effect on the same day.

This document was developed at the initiative of the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications and was approved by the relevant order, as well as registered in the appropriate manner by the Ministry of Justice.

There is an international practice of transferring from one company to another while maintaining your mobile number, registering as a new subscriber and using the services of the new company.

In accordance with the adopted document, work has begun on the provision of similar services for domestic subscribers. Until now, there was no legal basis for its implementation.

Starting from 1 October, together with telecom operators, the procedure and requirements for changing the mobile operator while maintaining the number will be developed. Here, the priority will be given to the legislative and legal interests of mobile operators providing communication services for the population.

After that, in 2020-2021, mobile communication operators will create the appropriate infrastructure and purchase the necessary equipment. Agreements will be reached on this with mobile communication operators.

After creating the material and technical base and regulatory documents, it will be possible to switch to another company and use its services, keeping the number used. For example, you are a UMS or Beeline subscriber, you can go to Ucell or UzMobile with the prefix saved.
