A memorial to Al-Fargoniy, a medieval Central Asian scientist, was unveiled in Cairo, Egypt, on 19 April.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov, who paid official visit to Egypt on 17-19 April, participated in official opening ceremony of memorial to Al-Fargoniy.

President Islam Karimov noted that friendship of people of Uzbekistan and Egypt has great historic roots. HE said that Uzbek scientists, including Al-Fargoniy, contributed to development of world science.

Mayor of Cairo Abdulazim Wazir said that the memorial, which considered as gift of the Uzbek president to people of Egypt, is tribute to Ahmad Al-Fargoniy for his contribution to development of Egyptian civilization.
