Meetings with leaders of international organizations and parliaments held in Baku
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 February, within the framework of the 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Baku, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva held a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of international organizations and parliaments.
The discussions focused on key issues of cooperation and the development of interparliamentary relations.
During the meeting with APA Secretary-General Mohammad Reza Majidi, special attention was given to the significance of APA projects aimed at ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. The active role of Uzbekistan in implementing initiatives within this influential political organization was highlighted.
The parties also discussed the upcoming 150th anniversary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, set to take place in Tashkent, recognizing it as a major international event. Mohammad Reza Majidi expressed keen interest in participating in the session, emphasizing its global importance.
The talks also explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, transportation, and tourism. Special attention was paid to the increasing flow of tourists between countries in the region and the potential for launching joint projects in culture, arts, and pilgrimage tourism.
On the same day, Tanzila Narbaeva met with the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Yusuf Raza Gilani. The parties noted the dynamic development of the traditional friendly and fraternal ties between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, fostered by the efforts of the two countries’ leaders.
Discussions covered prospects for cultural projects, deepening trade and economic cooperation, and exchanging legislative experience. An agreement was reached to enhance the activities of friendship groups and increase reciprocal visits to strengthen interparliamentary ties.
The Pakistani side also expressed its intention to participate in the anniversary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled to be held in Tashkent from 5 to 9 April 2025.
As part of the visit, a meeting was held with the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, Natalya Kochanova. Participants discussed legislative improvements and strengthening bilateral relations through joint projects.
It was particularly emphasized that Belarus’s acquisition of observer status in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly opens new avenues for cooperation and expanding international dialogue.
