Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 October 2024, the Head of the CIS Observer Mission, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, met with the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Mission for observing elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Douglas Wake, reports the CIS Executive Committee press service.
During the meeting, the two parties exchanged views on monitoring the election preparation process and early voting. Sergey Lebedev briefed Douglas Wake on the work of the CIS Observer Mission, emphasizing its principles of objective observation, non-interference in the electoral process, and respect for the internal affairs of the state. The mission’s goal is to gather comprehensive and reliable information on all stages of the electoral campaign to assess whether the election preparation and conduct comply with national legislation.
The Head of the CIS Observer Mission noted that representatives of his mission observed the early voting process from 16 to 23 October 2024, at precinct election commission offices, confirming that it was conducted in accordance with electoral legislation. Douglas Wake, in turn, shared information about the activities of the OSCE/ODIHR mission.
Both parties agreed that these traditional meetings between the CIS and OSCE/ODIHR mission heads are mutually beneficial, as both missions share the goal of supporting free and democratic elections.
