Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will implement measures to further ensure the reliable protection of the rights and legal interests of convicts.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law introducing amendments and additions to the Penal Enforcement Code.
The law enshrines the right of convicts to humane treatment, respect for their honor and dignity, and the right to appeal to the Ombudsman of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Children's Ombudsman of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and international human rights protection bodies.
Additionally, the law establishes the right of convicts serving sentences for serious and particularly serious crimes to participate in elections and referendums.
The law takes effect from the moment of its official publication.
