Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a recent plenary session of the Senate, the Law "On Amendments and Additions to the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was reviewed and approved.
The law introduces provisions regulating the grounds and conditions for the extradition, acceptance, and refusal to transfer individuals sentenced to imprisonment for serving their sentences, as well as those with mental disorders sent for compulsory treatment.
Additionally, the document outlines in detail the procedures for recognizing and enforcing decisions made by foreign courts, as well as issues related to the costs of transferring these individuals.
Furthermore, the law establishes a clear procedure for reviewing requests to accept convicted individuals in Uzbekistan for the continuation of their sentences, as well as those with mental disorders for treatment. This innovation creates a legal basis for the extradition procedure and helps the country fulfill its international obligations.
During the discussion, it was emphasized that the law contributes to the social rehabilitation of convicts by providing them with the opportunity to serve their sentences in their homeland and strengthens the legal protection of citizens abroad.
