Measures for the development of the "green" economy discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation of measures aimed at developing a "green" economy.

Currently, energy and environmental problems are increasingly felt in the world. In this regard, many solar and wind power plants are being built in our country, and energy-saving technologies are being introduced in the economy.

In order to consistently continue this work, the state program for the implementation of the Development Strategy in 2022 envisages the development of a program for the transition to a "green" economy and energy saving in industries. The presentation provides information on the measures included in this program.

It was noted that this document defines the concept of transition to a "green" economy and energy efficiency in industrial sectors with the approval of targets for reducing the consumption of fuel and energy resources at 25 strategically important enterprises.

Due to this, it is planned to save 3.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 21,000 tons of oil products in industries in 2022-2026. As a result, it is planned to reduce the share of energy costs in the cost of manufactured products by 20 percent.

From 1 June 2023, a system of "green certificates" will be introduced, confirming that products are manufactured using environmentally friendly energy and technologies.

To this end, regulation of greenhouse gas emissions will be introduced step by step. At the same time, measures will be taken to support state support for work to reduce harm to nature.

It is also proposed to fully implement the "polluter pays" principle, expand the list of pollutants and increase the rate of collection for the emission of such substances.

Particular attention is paid to building up scientific research on the "green" economy and the implementation of innovative projects.

A group will be formed to continuously evaluate the implementation of the measures specified in the document. It will include heads of 15 international organizations and financial institutions.

The head of Uzbekistan approved these proposals and gave instructions on improving energy efficiency and reducing energy costs in the production of products in every industry.
