Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and the UAE-based Masdar have signed a contract for the construction of a 1000 MW wind power plant in Uchkuduk district of Navoi region.
The agreement was signed during the COP-29 conference held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The project will create 600-800 new jobs during the construction phase. Once the power plant is operational, it is expected to generate 3.5 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving approximately 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas, according to the Ministry of Energy.
This project holds significant economic and environmental value for the country. The introduction of the wind power plant will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.4 million tons per year, improving the ecological situation in the region.
The new power plant marks another phase in productive cooperation with Masdar, which helps Uzbekistan strengthen energy security, create new jobs, and contribute to sustainable economic development.
By joining the UAE's initiative to “Triple Renewable Energy Capacity,” Uzbekistan supports global efforts to reduce climate impact and meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, fostering international collaboration in clean energy development and emissions reduction.
The Ministry of Energy notes that Masdar has proven to be a reliable strategic partner for Uzbekistan. In cooperation with the company, projects with a total capacity of 1497 MW have already been implemented, including a 500 MW wind power plant in Zarafshan, and solar power plants in Karmina (100 MW), Gallaorol (220 MW), Katakurgan (220 MW), and Sherabad (457 MW).
Additionally, the construction of photovoltaic plants is ongoing in Alat district of Bukhara region (250 MW) and Guzar district of Kashkadarya region (300 MW).
These projects play a crucial role in the development of Uzbekistan's renewable energy sector.
