Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A man in  Andijan region of Uzbekistan killed his wife and mother-in-law with an axe.

According to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan, the incident occurred on August 1 around 8:30 AM in Pakhtabad district of the Andijan region.

The 40-year-old man got into an argument with his wife and mother-in-law, during which he grabbed an axe and attacked them.

The mother-in-law died at the scene from her injuries, while his wife was hospitalized with severe wounds. Despite the efforts of doctors, she could not be saved.

A criminal case has been opened under subsection "a" of part 2 of Article 97 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which deals with intentional murder of two or more people. The suspect has been detained and is under investigation.
