Man damages over 50 traffic violation cameras in Andijan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A man has been detained in Andijan for damaging more than 50 traffic violation detection cameras.
Earlier, a video circulating on social media with a sensational headline claimed that 52 radar cameras had been destroyed in the city. Upon investigation, the information was only partially confirmed — the actual circumstances of the incident turned out to be different.
According to official reports, a 48-year-old citizen identified as M.S. deliberately disabled 51 Hikvision-brand photo and video surveillance systems, along with one radar unit of the same brand. All the devices were owned by the private company TELECOM SOFT and were installed at 29 intersections across Andijan.
The perpetrator used an SRKET-brand pneumatic rifle to carry out the attacks. A forensic examination revealed that the damage caused amounted to over 1.1 billion soums.
The city’s police department has launched a criminal case under paragraph “v” of part 2 of Article 173 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. An investigation is currently underway.
