Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Uzbekistan, customs officials detained a citizen who was trying to transport a significant amount of cash.

The incident occurred at the "Olot" customs post in Bukhara region, near the border with Turkmenistan.

The man initially claimed that he had US$5,000 and 38 million soums in his possession; however, upon counting, it was revealed that he was carrying much more—US$10,000 and 61.5 million soums.

During further inspection, it was discovered that he had hidden an additional US$30,000 in his shoes and US$10,000 in his pockets.

The violator was detained for clarification of the circumstances.

According to current legislation, the export of an amount equivalent to 100 million soums is permitted from the country, provided that it is declared.
