Low-cost airline Humo Air returns 1.5 billion soums to passengers for air tickets

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Committee on Competition and Consumer Protection of Uzbekistan accused the private airline Humo Air of violating consumer rights.

The topic circulating on social networks that Humo Air misleads customers and does not return money has sparked discussions among the population.

As a result of studying the situation by the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights, the following was revealed.

In 2024, Humo Air canceled 284 flights and passengers who purchased tickets were unable to get their money back. This led to a violation of the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Protection of Consumer Rights,” in particular, Articles 19 and 21.

According to Article 19 of the Law, the contractor (in this case, the airline) is obliged to perform work or provide a service within the established time frame, volume and quality. Article 21 establishes that the seller or performer does not have the right to insist on the acquisition of additional goods or services for an additional fee, or to charge fees for services not provided.

After conducting research, Humo Air received 3,000 requests from consumers. Of these, 2,000 requests were satisfied. Funds in the amount of 1.5 billion paid for tickets were returned to passengers.

In addition, at the request of 6 passengers, the airline purchased tickets from another airline at its own expense in the amount of 7.5 million soums.

Humo Air is also taking steps to provide refunds to passengers whose flights have been cancelled.

The Competition Committee ensures that passengers are fully refunded for unused air tickets.
