Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The leading French newspaper L’Opinion published an article by the head of the Asia column, Claude Leblanc, on parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan, Dunyo reported.
The article emphasized that the international organizations that took part in the election observation praised the work done to prepare and conduct them.
“The slogan “New Uzbekistan - new elections” gave the event important international significance. More than 800 international observers were invited to witness the great changes taking place in an independent state,” the article says.
The author gives the opinion of one of our experts, the director of the National Center for Human Rights and the first ambassador of Uzbekistan to France, Akmal Saidov. “It takes time to instill a culture of human rights at all levels of society. Rome was not built in one day, but today no one can deny that many changes have occurred in our country. This is also confirmed by the fact that “The Economist”, two days before the election, proclaimed Uzbekistan “Country of the Year” for “greater than anyone else’s achievements in 2019,” the French journalist quotes Saidov.
As noted in the article, the abolition of forced labor, the closure of the largest prison, the release of political prisoners, the presence of foreign journalists, the adoption of new laws and the organization of elections after a complete revision of the electoral code indicate that the country's leadership is committed to radical reform.
A large number of international observers, the use of computer technology to ensure transparency of the process - all these, according to the French journalist, are measures aimed at confirming the country's transformation course.
