Localization of goods for investment projects could save US$28 billion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a meeting on attracting investments and increasing exports, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that through the localization of goods for investment projects, the country could save US$28 billion.

The President provided details on the investment plans and targets developed by local khokimiyats (administrations). In 27 districts of the country, the task for this year is to attract investments amounting to US$200 million or more.

However, in 10 districts — Bandikhan, Bayavut, Bekabad, Gurlen, Kukdalian, Mirishkor, Rishtan, Tashkent, Uzun, and Sherabad — the investment targets fall short of US$40 million. For these districts, new project packages worth US$100 million are to be prepared.

Over the past seven years, more than 6,000 new projects have been implemented, with a total investment of US$120 billion. According to experts’ calculations, for every US$1,000 of investment, an average of US$530 in added value is created.

In the mining sector, this figure reached US$700, which helped attract new foreign investors. However, in sectors such as "Uzbekneftegaz," "Uzmetkombinat," and the building materials industry, this figure remains half the average. Additionally, the indicators in the Syrdarya and Bukhara regions, as well as in Karakalpakstan, were lower than the national average.

The issue of delayed industrial equipment worth US$110 million, awaiting delivery for 105 entrepreneurs at customs warehouses, was also discussed. The President instructed the creation of a “road map” to ensure the timely delivery of these goods to the customers.

Special attention was given to increasing the share of local products in investment projects. Currently, it is possible to offset US$28 billion in costs through local components in projects worth US$75 billion.

Officials have been tasked, in collaboration with khokimiyats and industry representatives, to prepare a localization program for 2025. This initiative will help create new jobs, save foreign currency, and stimulate the development of related industries.
