Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan has conceptually reviewed, in its first reading, the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to the Tax and Customs Codes of the Republic of Uzbekistan."

The bill is aimed at strengthening the prevention of fraud committed using information and communication technologies and at protecting citizens’ rights and freedoms in this area.

The draft law includes provisions for the procurement of technical equipment for operational-search activities by authorized state bodies and the creation of conditions for the prompt acquisition of such equipment by exempting it from taxation and customs duties upon its import into the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The bill’s sponsors emphasized that the proposed amendments and additions are intended to address deficiencies in the application of tax and customs benefits in this sector. The adoption of the draft law is expected to improve the process of using tax and customs benefits for the importation of technical equipment for operational-search activities and enhance the effectiveness of such activities.

The draft law was approved by the deputies in its third reading.
