Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 21 November 2024, a regular session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis took place, during which deputies reviewed candidates for positions in the Cabinet of Ministers.
In accordance with Article 94 of the updated Constitution, the consideration and approval of candidates for Cabinet positions upon the recommendation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan is an exclusive prerogative of the Legislative Chamber.
In this regard, the President submitted 24 candidates for Cabinet positions. This new democratic procedure fully reflects the will of the people, fostering greater accountability of government bodies and officials to society and citizens.
During the committee meetings of the lower house, deputies familiarized themselves with the candidates’ programs based on their respective activities. Furthermore, the candidates were preliminarily discussed at faction meetings of political parties in the Legislative Chamber.
During these meetings, candidates presented their action plans. Members of factions, drawing from their parties’ electoral platforms and the interests of their voters, raised pressing issues and proposed several recommendations.
At the session, deputies considered the 24 candidates for Cabinet positions as presented by the President.
Deputies emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between the Cabinet of Ministers and the Legislative Chamber in addressing the tasks outlined in the President’s address during the discussion of the candidacy for the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan.
Accordingly, several key objectives were set before the candidates. These included ensuring equal benefits for local and foreign investors, developing measures to reduce poverty, improving road infrastructure, decreasing traffic accidents, effectively utilizing artificial intelligence technologies, and enhancing the quality of education in schools. Detailed responses were provided on these issues.
During the discussion of the agenda, speeches were delivered by leaders of political party factions. Additionally, it was noted that ministries should expand cooperation with the committees of the lower house to address existing local issues more effectively.
