Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis reviewed in the first reading a draft law aimed at improving the system of state management and oversight in the field of nuclear energy use.

In recent years, the country has consistently carried out reforms to ensure the peaceful use of nuclear energy, enhancing its safety and efficiency. Special attention is paid to developing a legal framework in line with international standards, improving management systems and control mechanisms, and clearly delineating the powers and responsibilities of all industry participants.

The draft law provides for aligning the state regulation system in this area with international practices. In particular, the Agency for Nuclear Energy under the Cabinet of Ministers is defined as the sole authorized body implementing state policy in the field of nuclear energy use.

Additionally, the draft law proposes updating the names of government bodies, ministries, and agencies, as well as certain legal terms, to align with current legislation. Legal and technical amendments are introduced to clarify and harmonize regulatory norms.

During discussions, it was noted that the adoption of this draft law would be an important step in further developing the legal framework for nuclear energy use, ensuring effective state management and oversight, and establishing industry relations that meet modern requirements.

Following the discussions, deputies supported the draft law and approved it in the first reading.
