Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The draft law ratifying the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of Malaysia on mutual assistance in criminal matters has been approved at a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The agreement, signed in Tashkent on 8 June 2023, aims to enhance cooperation in combating crime and ensuring the rule of law.
The agreement provides for legal assistance in procedural actions such as criminal investigations, prosecutions, trials, accountability, as well as the identification, seizure, and confiscation of criminal proceeds and tools. It also includes measures for the compensation of material damages caused by crimes.
Special attention is given to the fact that the agreement does not apply in cases of detention or arrest for the purpose of extradition, transfer of persons for serving sentences, or enforcement of court decisions issued by one party and to be executed by the other.
This document will establish a legal framework for effective cooperation between the law enforcement and judicial authorities of Uzbekistan and Malaysia, enhancing solidarity in the fight against crime and improving the legal systems of both countries.
The bill has been approved by the deputies and sent to the Senate for further consideration.
