Legalization period for foreign nationals in Russia extended until 10 September
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended the deadline for foreign nationals and stateless persons residing illegally in Russia to either regularize their legal status or leave the country until 10 September 2025. The corresponding decree was signed by the Russian head of state.
Back in December 2024, a decree had set 30 April 2025 as the initial deadline for migrants to legalize their status or depart.
One of the newly signed decrees also introduces a mechanism for tracking migrants through a registry of monitored individuals. This measure applies to foreign nationals who are in Russia without legal grounds.
Information about such individuals, including stateless persons, is entered into the registry from the moment of illegal border crossing, visa cancellation, or revocation of residence permits.
Additionally, as of 5 February 2025, a special procedure for deporting illegal migrants came into force in Russia. This procedure allows the Ministry of Internal Affairs to expel migrants without a court decision—an authority previously granted only to the courts and the border service.
