Leaving a child unattended on the territory of a foreign state entails liability

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law on introduction of additions and amendments to some legislative acts.

In particular, according to the additions made to the Code of Administrative Responsibility, leaving a child who has citizenship of Uzbekistan without supervision in the territory of a foreign state by a father, mother or a person replacing them, or an accompanying person entails the imposition of a fine from 10 to 50 sizes of basic estimated valye (from 3 million to 15 million soums).

According to this, when considering a case on an administrative offense, the court imposes on the person who committed this administrative offense the obligation to return the child to Uzbekistan from the territory of a foreign state with a maximum period of 30 days or to take measures to eliminate the offense.

Also, according to the additions made to the Criminal Code, leaving a child without supervision in the territory of a foreign state, committed after the application of an administrative penalty for the same action, or not ensuring the return of the child to the territory of Uzbekistan within the period established by the court, may be punished by imprisonment for up to 3 years.

If this act is committed under aggravating circumstances, the person who committed it may be punished with imprisonment for up to 8 years.

These norms are put into effect after 3 months from the date of the official publication of this Law.
