Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, visited the high-altitude sports and tourist complex "Medeu."

During the visit, the President of Uzbekistan familiarized himself with the history of the construction and architectural features of the Medeu dam, which is situated at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level and is designed to protect the city from mudflows.

The famous "Stairway of Health," consisting of 842 steps, leads to the top of the dam. Since 2011, a 4.5-kilometer-long cable car has connected Medeu with the Shymbulak ski resort.

The Medeu ice complex, built in 1972 at an altitude of 1,700 meters, covers an area of 10,500 square meters and accommodates up to 3,000 spectators. It attracts more than 400,000 residents and visitors to Almaty annually. Today, the complex serves not only as a sports arena but also as a popular tourist and cultural venue, hosting competitions, public ice-skating sessions, festivals, and other events.

Over the years, Medeu has hosted major international competitions, including the 2011 Asian Winter Games and the 2017 World Winter Universiade.

During their visit, the presidents watched demonstration performances by young figure skaters together.
