Leader of “Milliy Tiklanish” Party: Schools must not become a platform for foreign propaganda
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Alisher Kadyrov, leader of the Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Milliy Tiklanish,” commented on a recent incident at a Tashkent school where a teacher was reportedly dismissed for attempting to hold an event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Honor.
In a statement posted on his Telegram channel, Kadyrov emphasized the importance of raising children with national and universal values, grounded in respect for their own identity. According to him, educational institutions must not serve as platforms for external ideological propaganda.
“Attempts to evoke nostalgia in children for times when national identity was suppressed, or to inspire sympathy for symbols of the imperial past under which our ancestors were destroyed, should be regarded as a threat to national security,” the politician stated.
He also stressed the need for an official explanation from the Ministry of Preschool and School Education and announced plans to send an inquiry to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting a review of the activities of the Russian cultural agency “Rossotrudnichestvo” in Uzbekistan.
“We are a nation whose bread was taken away. We cannot allow our openness and goodwill to be exploited,” Kadyrov added.
The incident sparked widespread discussion on social media, where it was claimed that a teacher from a school in the Chilanzar district was dismissed after proposing that students perform the Russian wartime songs “Katyusha” and “Smuglyanka.”
In response, the Tashkent City Department of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education issued an official statement confirming that on May 8, a primary school teacher of class 4-“G” failed to conduct a scheduled mathematics lesson without notifying the administration. Instead, she attempted to organize an extracurricular activity without receiving prior approval from school leadership.
The administration warned the teacher that such initiatives must not take place during academic hours and should only be held outside the official class schedule. She was informed that in the event of repeated violations, she would be advised to submit a resignation letter.
The statement did not confirm whether the performance of “Katyusha” and “Smuglyanka” was actually planned. The specific school was not identified, but it was confirmed that the incident occurred in Tashkent’s Chilanzar district.
