Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, a draft law aimed at further enhancing the activities of the National Guard of the Republic of Uzbekistan was reviewed in its first reading.
During the discussions, it was highlighted that reforms in defense and security carried out in recent years led to the establishment of the National Guard in 2017. In 2020, the Law "On the National Guard of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was adopted, defining its status.
Currently, 17 laws, over 50 decrees, and resolutions regulate the National Guard’s activities, while new tasks and functions have been assigned to its bodies.
The draft law introduces amendments to Article 3 of the Law "On the National Guard," aimed at systematizing the responsibilities of the National Guard bodies and introducing a new task.
Specifically, the draft law proposes clarifying the procedure for National Guard personnel to identify themselves when addressing citizens, which was not previously stipulated in the existing law.
In accordance with the newly revised Constitution, Article 6 of the Law "On the National Guard" will be supplemented with a provision requiring National Guard servicemen or employees to introduce themselves when interacting with citizens and explain their rights and obligations.
The draft law was approved by lawmakers in its first reading.
