The event was co-organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan and OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

Representatives of ministries and departments, Uzbekistan Farmers Association, and international organizations, scholars, experts, and other participated at the event.

The participants discussed actual issues of legislative guarantees of reforms in rural areas. It was said that Uzbekistan leadership approved a project “Support development of agriculture” in 2011 and it is directed at deepening reforms in agriculture sector and improve legislation base in agriculture sector.

Within the first phase of the project, the works on analysis of current legislation was carried out and corresponding recommendations were developed.

Based on recommendations and study of 93 laws of various countries, regulating agriculture sector, the draft law “On agriculture” has been developed. It is planned to improve the draft law based on opinion of farmers and enterprises, working in agriculture sector.

During the conference, the participants discussed issues of modernizing agriculture sector and its re-equipment. The conference adopted recommendations on eliminating existing problems in the sector.
