Latvia assists Uzbekistan in implementing GLOBAL G.A.P standards

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Uzbek Embassy in Latvia, together with the Uzstandart Agency, held a video conference on certification issues using the GLOBAL G.A.P system, Dunyo reports.

The event was attended by the regional coordinator GLOBAL G.A.P. in Central Asia, Latvia, and Russia E. Strazdynia, heads of the Uzstandard Agency, as well as representatives of such domestic companies interested in exporting products to the European market as Red Pack and Valley Fruits.

Important aspects of work in the implementation of GLOBAL G.A.P and ORGANIC standards in the republic, remote support of local manufacturers during the pandemic, online certification and audit were discussed. An exchange of views took place on the prospects of creating local certification structures in Uzbekistan, the development of standardization in agriculture, livestock, and fish farming.

Strazdynia noted that Uzbekistan has made significant progress in recent years in the production of products that meet the requirements of ORGANIC and GLOBAL G.A.P. Particular attention is paid to improving the safety and quality of agricultural products. Government decisions in the field of expanding the geography of exports, as well as the full use of the potential for the production of organic matter, were positively evaluated.

The Latvian specialist provided recommendations on the implementation of the international standard GLOBAL G.A.P, aimed at significantly improving the quality of produce in the fruit and vegetable industry, improving marketing and expanding the geography of Uzbek exports. The readiness was also expressed to facilitate the exchange of experience and useful information on international standards in the field of livestock and aquaculture.

As a result of the event, an agreement was reached on involving representatives of Uzbekistan in the work scheduled for 27 May 2020, the largest online consultation platform GLOBAL G.A.P. World Consultation Tour 2020 and a special webinar with the participation of E. Strazdynia, domestic farmers, responsible representatives of relevant departments of Uzbekistan.
