Large cities of Uzbekistan to be included in the system of green spaces among European cities

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the visit of the Minister of Natural Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov to Switzerland, a meeting was held with the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe Olga Algayerova, Director of the EEC Department of the Environment M. Kainer, EEC Regional Advisor S. Radnaaragchaa and Secretary of the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution A. Karadzhova.

At the meeting, O. Algayerova noted the high level of organization of the Tashkent International Investment Forum and thanked President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for this. She noted that the forum is becoming a regional hub for the development of green investments, transport, tourism, education and other important sectors.

During the meeting, the parties agreed on the revision by EEC international experts of legal acts to attract foreign investors in the field of "green" investments, in particular, in the carbon accounting system, as well as to optimize the public-private partnership system for local entrepreneurs based on international standards and principles.

In addition, taking into account the high level of air pollution in cities, it was agreed with the Secretary of the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution to develop an action plan to improve air quality based on international methodology, legal instruments and best practices during the period of ratification, as well as the prospect of joining conventions.

It is worth noting that, within the framework of the International Investment Forum, UN Deputy Secretary General Olga Algayerova visited Samarkand and paid special attention to the trees in Registan, which were planted as part of a meeting of the Organization of Turkic States at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan. This tree planting model will be presented as an example in the ECE Trees in Cities project. The parties agreed to integrate the statistics of trees planted under Yashil makon into the Trees in Cities project, as well as to include large cities of Uzbekistan in the system of green spaces among European cities.

At the end of the meeting, the UN Economic Commission for Europe was invited to the 21st meeting of the Committee to Review the Implementation of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, the 14th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals and the 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
