Landscaping and gardening work starts in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- “Over 409,000 trees are planned to be planted in Tashkent this spring,” Olovuddin Nizamov, a leading specialist at the Main Department of Improvement of the City of Tashkent said.

“In addition, local self-government bodies, public organizations and various enterprises contribute to the improvement and landscaping of the native city, which makes Tashkent at any time of the year green,” he added.

Landscape aesthetics today is an integral part of the modern metropolis, so the issues of gardening are always on the agenda of the leadership of the capital. The growth rate of landing green spaces grow every year. The figures show this: back in 1990, green areas occupied only 6,800 hectares of land from the total area of Tashkent. To date, this figure has grown significantly, reaching 15,200 hectares of land. If we take for each resident of the capital, then today there is 69 square meters of green space per Tashkent resident.

This work does not stop. Last fall, 168,118 seedlings of trees and shrubs were planted in the capital, as well as 5 million perennial and annual flowers. Over 400,000 more fruit and ornamental trees are planned to be planted in the coming spring.

Creating green areas, parks and gardens with greenery is necessary not only for the landscape design of the metropolis, but above all, to maintain a clean environment. Trees purify the air, prevent the spread of exhaust gases, quench the noise level, soften the temperature and dry air. According to statistics, one hectare of forest delays 54 tons of dust per year and the air temperature in the shade of trees remains 16 degrees lower than in open space.

Landscaping also requires a well-thought-out approach. Carefully select only those plant species that enrich the air with oxygen. These include, for example: pine, spruce, oak, elm, chestnut and birch. And from those that adversely affect human health and the environment, spreading harmful substances, it is necessary to refuse.

Now over 220 species of fruit and ornamental trees have been planted in the capital. This year it is planned to plant Sopora, chestnut, maple, ash, oak, tulip and other ornamental trees. Among the bushes, preference is given to forsythia, Japanese quince, magnolia, Syrian rose and other plants, replacing each other in bloom in stages throughout the year. Tulips, viols, taghetis and salvias will also decorate the central and other streets of the capital this spring.

One of the last initiatives of the Tashkent khokimiyat for landscaping the metropolis was the project "Green Belt", the implementation of which is scheduled in conjunction with the City Office for Ecology and Environmental Protection. The order on 19 February was signed by the khokim of the capital, Jahongir Artikkhodjaev.

The Green Belt will be implemented along the Tashkent Ring Road, where from 20 February to 20 April and from 20 October to 20 December, fast-growing deciduous and coniferous trees adapted to the local climate and resistant to low water will be planted.
