Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan to sell electricity to each other
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will sell electricity to each other from November 2009. Uzbekistan do not need Kyrgyz electricity, but it plans to buy electricity to export it further.

Kyrgyzstan in turn should buy thermal power, but here market relations will apply.

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan signed the intergovernmental agreement on reciprocal sale of electricity in mid-October. The Uzbek energy company and the Kyrgyz Electric Stations are due to sign the agreement on electricity sale before 1 November 2009.

Prior to agreement, the two states exchange electricity on a non-refundable basis. Uzbekistan was dependent upon Kyrgyz electricity to supply Ferghana Valley with electricity. Uzbekistan, in exchange, supplied thermal power to the northern Kyrgyzstan via Kazakhstan.

In late 2008, Uzbekenergo put into operation the power transmission line from Novo-Angrenskaya thermal power plant in Tashkent region and Uzbekistanskaya substation in Ferghana Valley to get rid of dependence of energy supplies from Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan can not re-direct electricity from south to the north.
