Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan resume energy talks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on Thursday resumed energy talks to discuss next year gas prices. A Kyrgyz government source told Itar-Tass that Ilyas Davydov, the minister of industry, energy and fuel resources, would represent the Kyrgyz delegation at the talks.

The sides will also discuss the volumes of gas deliveries to Kyrgyzstan by Uzbek companies in 2009.

All the previous rounds of talks ended with no result. Uzbekistan insisted on a price of US$300 for 1,000 cubic meters of gas while Kyrgyzstan claimed the price should remain at its 2008 level, i.e. US$145 for 1,000 cubic meters.

Uzbekistan is the chief gas supplier to Kyrgyzstan whose economy greatly depends on “blue fuel” imports.
