Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to sign agreement on border junction

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan plan to sign an agreement on the junction point of their state borders, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon announced on Thursday following bilateral talks with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov in Bishkek.

"Today, after signing the border agreement between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, we have reached an understanding with the esteemed Sadyr Nurgozhoyevich on the imminent signing of an agreement between the Republic of Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the junction of our state borders," Rahmon stated.

The signing of the document is expected to be timed with the Navruz celebrations in Khujand, Tajikistan.

During the talks, it was also revealed that on March 31, the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will celebrate Navruz together in Khujand. Japarov emphasized the significance of the upcoming event, expressing confidence that the joint celebration of Navruz would become a cherished tradition symbolizing peace and unity among Central Asian nations.

Additionally, as part of Rahmon’s state visit to Kyrgyzstan, the two leaders signed 16 agreements aimed at strengthening Kyrgyz-Tajik cooperation. A key document was the interstate border treaty, which both presidents hailed as a historic milestone.

The visit also included a ceremony marking the reopening of two border checkpoints between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. These crossings had remained closed since May 2021 following a border conflict.
