Uzbekistan 11/12/2008 Kyrgyzstan strengthens its border with Uzbekistan
In Kyrgyzstan, the number of border posts is three times fewer and the Border Service’s personnel is nine times fewer than in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Kyrgyzstan, the number of border posts is three times fewer and the Border Service’s personnel is nine times fewer than in Uzbekistan, the chairman of the Kyrgyz Border Service, Zamir Moldoshev, said at Kyrgyz parliamentary session on defence, security, law and order and judicial reforms.

According to Moldoshev, there are some sections on the state border which are not protected well enough. Currently, a border commandant’ office is deployed with 62-strong personnel on the border with Uzbekistan.

Moreover, he said that six border posts were to be set up in the country’s south. In Moldoshev’s opinion, the strengthening of the southern border would bring good results. "The border is being reinforced through reducing the number of officers in the central apparatus, the south regional directorate and the general staff and the optimization of the northern border posts," he said.
