Kyrgyzstan is fully prepared for hosting a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek on 16 August, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev told journalists from SCO member countries on Friday, Itar-Tass reported.
All the facilities are ready to host the negotiations between the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, he said. "The majority of our leaders doubted that the construction could be completed within such a short period," he said. Bakiyev thanked Chinese workers, who erected the buildings so fast.
There will be three sets of issues on the summit agenda, Bakiyev said. At first, the presidents will analyze the fulfillment of their earlier agreements. Then, they will discuss the situation in the world, the region and territories of SCO member countries. After that, the presidents will sign eight documents to intensify the partnership. It is also planned to sign an intergovernmental agreement on cultural cooperation and the interaction between the SCO Business Council and banking structures.
"The regional situation depends on our states, and their chiefs are doing their best to ensure stability and economic development. We must be good neighbors, and common efforts to that effect are being taken," Bakiyev said.
