KOICA to establish simultaneous interpretation center at UWED
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), an agency which is responsible for implementing Grant aid programs of the Government of the Republic of Korea held a meeting on launching the project of establishing simultaneous interpretation center at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent.

The meeting took place at assembly hall of UWED with the participation of Vice-president of KOICA Mr. Lee Jong Seon.

Within the next two years, US$1.3 million will be invested to the project for “Capacity building of interpretation education and improving the computer based test system of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy”.

The building of old cinema hall of the University will be renovated to the interpretation laboratory and conference hall, and will be supplied with the necessary equipment for simultaneous interpretation. Establishment of management system, provision of equipment, dispatch of experts, and invitation to the training programs are also included in the project.

In 2005 KOICA has implemented the electronic library project at UWED and this new project will contribute to the further development of the University and to the training of future generation of Uzbek diplomats.

On 1 February 2013, a meeting between KOICA and UWED representatives on the launch of the project was held at the Big Lecture Hall of the University. Vice-President of KOICA Mr. Lee Jong Seon, KOICA Uzbekistan Office Director Mr.Lee Kyung Sang, and Vice Rectors Turdiev Mizrob and Khodjaev Bakhodir, and others participated in the meeting.

Vice President Mr. Lee Jong Seon stated that “For the education of specialist interpreter, modern practice equipment and systematized education methodology is needed”. He also stated “I hope that after the completion of the project, UWED will be the birthplace of diplomats”.

Since 1992, KOICA has provided a total of US$60.76 million to Uzbekistan as Official Development Assistance.

This year KOICA is planning to work on projects of Capacity building of vocational training education in Samarkand Region, Greenery planting in the territory of Navoi FIEZ, Strengthening capacity of Customs Committee, Quality Improvement of Medical Care Rendering to Patients with Infectious Diseases and others.
