King of Jordan and President of Uzbekistan Visit Samarkand’s Historic Monuments

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Samarkand’s architectural and cultural landmarks as part of the Jordanian monarch’s state visit.

The program began at the Shah-i-Zinda complex, included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The site houses the mausoleum of Qusam ibn Abbas, a cousin and companion of the Prophet Muhammad, along with other notable figures. The ensemble reflects the evolution of architecture and decorative arts in the region over several centuries.

King Abdullah II, a descendant of the Hashemite dynasty tracing its lineage to the Prophet Muhammad’s daughter Fatimah and his son-in-law Ali ibn Abi Talib, paid tribute at the resting place of Qusam ibn Abbas. Quranic surahs were recited in his honor.

The Jordanian delegation was also introduced to the Mausoleum of Amir Temur. The guests were briefed on the state-building achievements of the era of Sahibkiran, his military genius, diplomatic ties, and the significance of the empire he created in world history.

The heads of state then visited the Registan ensemble, which includes the Ulughbek, Sherdor, and Tillya-Kori madrasahs. A symbol of Samarkand, the ensemble served for centuries as a hub of science and education and has long been the subject of study by historians and architects.

The distinguished guests were also provided with information about the architectural features and ornamental art of the monuments, as well as recent restoration efforts carried out in recent years.
