In the reporting period, the gross regional product in the area increased by 8%. Industrial production increased by 12.3%, consumer goods production by 15%, agricultural production by 5.7% and the volume of retail trade by 14%.
At the joint Uzbek-Turkish company Cottontex, equipment worth USD 1 million was installed, increasing capacities for cotton fiber processing. Two brick factories equipped with Chinese technology will be built in Yangibazar and Koshkupir districts in the near future.
The level of employment increased in the region due to development of production and small and private businesses. More than 10,000 new jobs were created in the first quarter.
At the same time, the potential of the out-work sector was not fully used, with only 823 jobs created in industry on the basis of home work.
Koshkupir, Shavat, Urgench and Yangiarik districts were not paying sufficient attention to attracting direct foreign investments, it was noted.
Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke at the regional administration session.
