Khorezm region to launch production of Damas cars in 2014
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Khorezm region of Uzbekistan will launch production of automobiles of Damas model in 2014.

President of Uzbekistan signed a resolution “On measures on organization of production of automobiles of Damas model in Khorezm region” on 21 February 2013.

According to the resolution, production of Damas automobiles will be based at Khorezm Automobile Production Union LLC.

The project will be implemented in two stages. Within the first stage, it is planned to create assembly lines of Damas production at Khorezm Automobile Production Union LLC. The first stage will be completed in the first quarter of 2014.

Within the second stage, it is planned to transfer enterprise to full circle of Damas car production. The second stage will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.

The resolution said that the share of the government in Khorezm Automobile Production Union LLC will be handed over to Uzavtosanoat as contribution to its charter capital.

Uzavtosanoat, in its turn, will lease part of premises of Khorezm Automobile Production Union LLC to GM Uzbekistan.

GM Uzbekistan is customer of the project “Organization of production of Damas automobiles at Khorezm Automobile Production Union LLC, the resolution said.

Uzogirsanoatloyiha is a general contractor of the project, while O’ZAVTOSANOAT-INJINIRING will conduct technical supervision of construction works.

As earlier reported, the plant will produce 40,000 automobiles of Damas model and 40,000 spare parts to them.

Asaka-based GM Uzbekistan started to produce Damas microbuses in March 1996. In 2006, the plant launched production of modernized version of Damas.

Currently, GM Uzbekistan produces eight car models, including four sedans – Nexia, Lacetti, Malibu and Cobalt, two small cars – Matiz and Spark, one SUV model – Captiva and microbus Damas.
