Kholmurodov: Uzbekistan abandons practice of developing annual investment programs
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan abandoned the outdated practice of developing annual investment programs without careful planning, application of a unified concept for formation of long-term ideas and investment objectives, Deputy Prime Minister Sukhrob Kholmuradov said.

Kholmuradov said that now Uzbekistan will develop state development programs for 10-15 years.

He recalled that the Fund for Financing Government Development Programs under the Cabinet of Ministers has been established recently. The fund will accumulate funds from various sources, including foreign investments and loans. The Fund will also monitor the targeted use of funds during implementation of projects.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that the pre-emptive pursuit of figures in development of the investment program conducted a superficial assessment of the economic feasibility and impact of investment.

According to him, Uzbekistan used foreign investment US$2.4 billion in 2017, while the share of foreign investment in the total investment reached 20.4%.

Sukhrob Kholmurodov said that now the main task is to develop sectoral long-term goals. Based on the goals set, industry development programs will be prepared. He added that the projects under the program will be implemented with involvement of public funds and private investments.

The Vice Premier also underlined that in the regions of Uzbekistan, deputy hokims will be appointed, who will be responsible for development and implementation of investment projects in the context of the regions. Currently, work is underway to appoint deputy governors.
