Khiva – tourist city of the Islamic world in 2024

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 31 May to 2 June, in connection with the announcement of Khiva as a tourist city of the Islamic world in 2024, a number of international events are being organized.

In 2022, at the XI session of tourism ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baku, the ancient city of Khiva, with a history dating back two and a half thousand years, was declared the “Tourist City of the Islamic World 2024”.

In this regard, the city of Khiva will soon attract the attention of the entire Islamic world. As part of the next prestigious events taking place in Uzbekistan, the XII session of the ministers of tourism of the OIC member states will be held. During the session, presentations of the tourism potential of the OIC member countries will be held, the results of the implemented work will be analyzed, and plans for the future will be considered.

Khiva is famous not only for its unique historical monuments, which are included in the world heritage, but also for its national values, such as the Khorezm dance - “Lazgi”, recognized by UNESCO as an integral part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Khorezm cuisine, including “Tukhum Barak”, “Shivit Oshi”, “Izhzhan” and unique dishes from local fish, reflects the unique culture of this ancient land.

It should be noted that giving Khiva the status of a tourist city of the Islamic world makes it possible to turn the city into one of the best tourist centers in the international travel market. UNESCO experts even compare Khiva with ancient Athens, Rome and Cairo.

The ancient complex "Ichan Kala", included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1990, is one of the best preserved medieval structures on the Silk Road.
