Key stakeholders discussed Uzbekistan’s water resources management at the Tashkent International Investment Forum

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A panel session was held at the Tashkent International Investment Forum on the current topic of water resources management in Uzbekistan “Water resources management: the role of government, business and society.” The session presented key aspects and strategies aimed at developing and improving water resources management in the country.

Acting Chairman of the Board of Uzsuvtaminot JSC Dilshod Azimov shared his experience in implementing a joint pilot project with Switzerland, thanks to which a program was introduced that significantly improved water supply methods and environmental safety of the region.

Dilshod Azimov also outlined the key directions for the development of the Uzbekistan-2030 strategy, which, among other things, are aimed at providing 90% of the country’s population with access to clean water. Azimov emphasized that for the successful implementation of these tasks, active interaction with international financial institutions, such as the Asian Development Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, business and the state is necessary.

In turn, Abdul Wahab Sharif, director of business development at SWS, presented a large-scale project that is planned to be implemented jointly with Uzsuvtaminot. The project is expected to be the largest in Central Asia. It involves the use of water resources from Salar and Bektemir.

Abdul Wahab Sharif also spoke about his experience with the water system in Abu Dhabi, which includes collecting, purifying and reusing water. He expressed hope for the introduction of similar technologies and approaches in Uzbekistan, which would be a new step towards improving water resource management in the country.

The event highlighted the role of government, business and society in working together to solve water problems and prepare for future challenges in this important area.
